It is with great sadness that we say ‘Goodbye’ to Mr. O’Connor who leaves the school to take up a post in St. Brendan’s Community School. We will miss him terribly, especially for all his musical contribution over the years. We wish him the very best of luck in his new job.

School Tracksuits will be available in Declan Phelan’s menswear circa mid-August. The school polo-shirt is now white and is available from any drapery shop.

On June 8th an Exhibition of Exotic Birds and Animals arrived in the school. The boys were very amazed by the variety and colour of all the animals and birds on display. The exhibition covered nature, science, geography, visual arts and musical areas of the curriculum.

On May 25th we had our “Road Safety Awareness Day” which marked the official launch of the “Road Safety Leaflet”. Brian Whelehan, a past pupil of the school made the official launch and many thanks to all who supported the project on the day including Cllr Tony McGloughlin, Mr. Michael Campbell(Chairman Birr Town Council), Garda Padraig Connaughton(Birr), Garda Pascal Hanafin(Tullamore) and all the parents who were very hard-working on the committee. Special thanks to Margaret Teehan(H/S Liaison) who got everything up and running and West Offaly Partnership for backing the project. The official ceremony was followed by a practical demonstration by the Gardai on Road Safety to all classes.

On May 24th the Edmund Rice Awards were presented to 6th class. The pupils performed a short play on the life of Edmund Rice and also outlined all the activities they had been involved in during the year. The guest speaker on the day was Mr. Ken Hogan and he presented the boys with their certificates. Many thanks to Mr. Crofton, Ann Barry Murphy, Br. Barry and especially the pupils themselves.

2007 Science DayOn May 22nd our gym was transformed into a giant laboratory for our junior and senior “Science Day”. This Years theme was “Energy and Forces”. Six activities were set up and the pupils moved from table to table experimenting at each station.2007 Science Day

After many months of preparation 6th class received the Sacrament of Confirmation in St. Brendan’s Church, Birr. Many thanks to Mr. Crafton, Fr. Cahir, Fr. Greed and Mr. O’Connor for all their effort in preparing the boys and the day went off very well.

Well done to James Coyne and Cormac Kenny (4th class) who represented our school in a K’Nex design/engineering project in Birr Castle. Both pupils enjoyed the project and already looking forward to designing things for future projects.

Senior Infants visited the Oxmantown Theatre for a performance of Cinderella. It was an enjoyable experience for all.
