Mrs.Owens class and a group of pupils from St. Anne’s in Roscrea visited the castle. Both groups had a wonderful day.

6th class pupils participated in ” Write a Book” competition. Many of the pupils were highly commended for their efforts and their certificates were presented at a function in the County Arms Hotel, Birr. Well done to all our budding young writers who entered the competition and special congratulations to James Guinan, Dale O’Brien, Tom Doyle, David Kearns, Peter Dooley and Nathan Stapleton.

Peter Kearney gave a Musical Workshop to all classes in the school. Some of the topics covered included percussion, singing, playing instruments, rhythm and action songs. In the afternoon he combined all aspects of his workshop and performed a concert for parents involving all classes. It was a really enjoyable musical experience for all the pupils.

2nd class made their First Holy Communion in St. Brendan’s Church. Many thanks to Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. McManus, our local priests, Mr. O’Connor and all the parents for making the day such a special occasion.

Three teams from 6th class participated in an F.A.I. Soccer Blitz in Tullamore. All teams played very well on the day. Team B won all their group games and qualified for the final.After extra time they were the overall winners of the competition. Well done to Mr. Crofton and all the lads. Team B then went on to represent our school at Leinster level and again performed very well. They were narrowly beaten in the final by a very strong Kilkenny team.

Mrs. Sampson’s class (3rd) were involved in a “Maths For Fun “project where parents came into the classroom and played Mathematical games with the children. It proved to be a very enjoyable and educational experience for both parents and pupils.Many thanks to Margaret Teehan (H/S Liaison) for organising the project.

Our U/13 Footballers began their campaign with a win over Clara. They went on to play Tullamore and Rhode.

On April 26th Dave Treadwell gave an exciting presentation to the pupils on “Bugs”. His enthusiasm and style really caught the interest of all the boys.

Boys from Fourth ClassOn April 25th some of the junior classes attended a Magic Show in the Oxmantown Theatre with ‘The Environment’ as the central theme. Everyone had a great “Environmentally Friendly” time.

Our u/13 hurlers began their campaign against Banagher with a good win. They then defeated Shinrone and went on to play Dromakeenan in the final. The boys went behind by 7 points but with an amazing display of skill and determination they pulled it back and were unlucky to be beaten by a single point. Well done to Ollie, Noel, Gary and Mr. Carroll for preparing the team so well and instilling in them that “never give up” attitude.
