St. Brendan's Boys Primary School

Our Fruit Scheme is up and runing again this year. Thanks to Margaret Teehan and her team of volunteer parents for keeping the scheme running so well. We were delighted to have some new help this year. Many thanks to all involved.

During November we always remember loved ones who have passed away. This year the pupils wrote the names of their family, friends and relations on a paper candle. Each class made a chart and this chart was displayed in the gym for the Remembrance Day Service. The pupils said prayers and played instruments as we remembered those loved ones who have passed away.Mrs. O’ Callaghan and Mrs. Bergin are especially in our thoughts and prayers during this special ceremony.

Our Gymnastics Programme began this year in November. The pupils stretched, rolled, tumbled, balanced, climbed and performed numerous other gymnastic manoeuvers. This year we were luck to have the expertise of Emer Feehan who works closely with the class teacher in implementing the guidelines laid down in the Curriculum.Mr. Crofton’s Class also performed a gymnastics show for other classes demonstrating all the skills they had learned.

Rugby training started again this year under the watchful eye of Peter Swanipol. The boys really enjoy the drills which develop their rugby skills and also enjoy playing the Tag Rugby games. We were very lucky this year to have in the school the Triple Crown, Six Nations and the Grand Sam Trophies. Thanks to Peter and Willie Burns for their time and efforts in giving the pupils the opportunity to see these trophies in close proximity.

Anne Barry- Murphy and Br. Barry gave 6th class their introductory talk on this years Edmund Rice Awards project. Throughout the year 6th class will be involved in various projects, both at home and in school, in the community and in the Church. These projects will involve ways the pupils can help out their family, school and community.

Following on from the excellent work done last year our boys again had the opportunity to avail of the expertise of Majella Killeen to develop their musical talents.Majella works closely with the class teachers in developing the pupils’ skills. They learn to play tin whistle and also learn about rhythm, beat, timing, notation, music theory and Majella also helps them prepare for school assemblies e.g. School Mass, Christmas Carols etc.

There was a great atmosphere in the school for Halloween. We had a Storty Teller who had the pupils spellbound with his scary tales and tall stories. The art work around the school was wonderful and Mr. Carroll’s class dressed up in costumes and toured all the classrooms all leading to a wonderful atmosphere.

Senior infants got their hands into brown bread making, under the guidance of Mrs. Donegan.
