While depleted in numbers some of our pupils availed of the opportunity to play in the snow. Supervised by their teacher they participated in a ” Build a Snowman Competition ” and Mr. Crofton provided prizes for the winning teams.


Mr. Cunningham and Mrs. Fitzgerald brought pupils from third and fourth class to Portarlington to play in an F.A.I. soccer tournament. The pupils played very well and won three matches. Well done to the boys and their coaches.

To celebrate the feast day of St. Brendan ( 29th of Nov ) classes 1st to 6th visited the church for 10 O’Clock Mass. The boys played, sang, did the readings, read prayers of the faithful and fourth class performed a wonderful play ( This is your Life ) on the life story of St. Brendan. The ceremony was presided over by Fr. Carroll.


Daryl Lally (5th class ) displayed some of his portfolio of art work in the school.Kathleen Gormley ( local artist ) officially opened the exhibition attended by a large number of our pupils. Well done to Daryl and his teacher Miss. Tooher. We hope it will inspire others to develop their talents in the future.


Our Pottery classes continue this year with our pupils revising the skills learned last year and developing new techniques this year. They made some wonderful large pots as a collaborative project and also some beautiful individual pieces. They were treated this year to witnessing the ” Spinning of a Pot ” performed by Finn in the Gym.


We all wish Mrs. Sampson well as she begins her new teaching post. Mrs. Sampson has given great service to St. Brendan’s over the past twenty years. Our Parents’ Association and staff made a presentation to her and the pupils said goodbye at our November ceremony.  We all wish her well for the future.

Mr. Crofton organised for a school group to attend the Community School show ” Back to the Eighties “. The pupils enjoyed seeing the show with their classmates and friends.We were delighted to see so many of our past pupils on stage. We hope it will inspire the boys to follow in their footsteps.


The theme for our next Green Flag will be “Transport”.This will be a two year programme and already we have pupils elected to our new committee. Over the next two years we will work hard to try and attain our third Green Flag.

Mairéad and Sam continue with their Socialisation programme this year. The pupils really enjoy the sessions learning valuable life skills in a fun and relaxed setting.

A Nutritionist visited the school and spoke to various classes about the importance of eating the proper foods and having a balanced diet. She spoke about the benefit of eating fruit, vegetables and how important it was to take in the correct amount of fluids.
