Rugby coaching began again this term under the watchful eye of Peter Swanipole. The pupils enjoyed learning new skills and using those already learned. Two teams from the school participated in a Rugby Blitz held in Birr Rugby Grounds.One team were the outright winners of the competition and the other team were unlucky not to reach the semi-final. Congratulations to all the boys and their coaches Mr. Carroll and Mr. McIntyre.

March ’11 Book Fair
The Book Fair visited the school in early March. There was a wonderful variety of books on display covering a vast selection of subjects. Each class got the opportunity to visit the Book Fair and look at the books on display. Both parents and pupils could purchase books. There was great interest shown and it created a great literary atmosphere in the school. We hope that such initiatives will inspire our pupils to read as much as they can well into the future.
March ’11 Football Win
Congratulations to our senior football team who were winners in the recent football blitz held in Ferbane. Well done to all the boys involved and to their coaches Mr. Carroll and Mr. McIntyre.
March ’11 World Book Day
As part of World Book Day many of our classes visited the local Library. The pupils signed up to be involved in a Boys Into Books Project. The pupils have to read a certain number of books within a specified timeframe. Well done boys keep up the good reading.
March ’11 Seachtain na Gaeilge



Rinne na daltaí sár iarracht chun gaelige a labhairt í rith Seachtain na Gaeilge.Thug Mr. Crofton duaiseanna do na buachaillí chun níos mó gaeilge a labhairt. Chuir na muinteoirí níos mó béim ar an teanga sna ranganna agus bhí postaer gaelach le feicéal ar fud na háite sa scoil. Bhí bana ceoil Na Twitters ag seinm sa scoil agus chan siad amhráin bunaithe ar chultúr gaeilge. Chuireamar Trá na Gceist ar siúl agus bhí ceist amháin gaeilge í ngach aon roinn.
March ’11 Junior Hurling League
Mr. Kennedy organised a lunch time hurling league for the junior classes. There was a great turnout of players and the league caused great excitment in the school. The boys enjoyed playing with and against their classmates and the league was played with great spirit and enthusiasm.
March ’11 Parachute Project
Mr. Carroll’s class (6th) were involved in a very scientific project claaed The Parachute Project. The pupils had to design and make their own working models of a parachute. The skills involved were designing, constructing, testing, readjusting and retesting. The scientific elements involved aerodynamics, balance, weight distribution and testing. The end results were excellent with the boys learning many new skills from the project.
March ’11 Dance Show
After many weeks of practising their dance skills with Vanessa our pupils participated in a wonderful Dance Show. The boys were excellent on the day and the show was enjoyed by a large attendance of parents. Well done to the boys, their teachers and Vanessa for all the preparatory work. It was an excellent project.
March ’11 Visit to the Fire Station
Mrs. Lonergan’s class visited our local Fire Station and members of the Firebrigade showed them the type of work they do, the equipment they use, the special clothes they wear and the safety measures they have in place when called to a fire. They gave instructions to the pupils on fire prevention and what to do in an emergency situation.The visit was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
