Mr. Crofton organised a wonderful Basketball League for our senior classes. There was a great response with a large turnout of pupils participating in the league. After many compeditive matches the final was contested between Bernie Ward’s team and Vladan Petkovic Petrovich. Well done to all the boys who participated in the league they really enjoyed playing with and against their friends in all the games.

As you may know, we are presently working towards our 4th Green Flag. The theme this time is Travel. We are hoping to encourage as much of the school community as possible to consider leaving the car at home, even for one day a week, to walk or cycle to school. If you live too far for that, maybe you could share ( carpool) with another family or drive part of the way and walk the rest ( park and stride) thus reducing the number of cars arriving at the school. There are many benefits to be gained
Health-fresh air and exercise for the children.
Educational-pupils more alert when they come to school.
Financial-saving on petrol.
Safety-no traffic jams outside the schooland safer roads.
Social-Time to chat to your neighbour as you walk.
Environmental-Reduce CO2 emissions.

To raise awareness of our travel theme, we are launching our W.O.W. ( WALK on Wednesdays) days on
Wednesday morning 4th May
Please join us in Emmet Square at 9a.m. so that we can all walk to school together. Who knows, you might enjoy it so much you’ll consider walking with your children every Wednesday, weather permitting.
Yours sincerely,
The Green School Committee

After all the hard work during the term some of our junior classes were treated to an Easter Egg Hunt. The boys enjoyed following the trails and clues given and the joy of finding the prize could be seen on all their faces.Everyone got their fair share and were delighted with the outing.

All classes visited the Garden of Tranquillity at the back of St. Brendan’s Church in preparation for Easter. Miss Doyle’s class did the Stations of the Cross ceremony. The boys carried the cross and candles to each station, read the appropriate prayers and sang the hymns. It was a glourous day and a lovely ceremony thoroughly enjoyed by all classes.

Our boys had the opportunity of availing of some golf lessons under the expert guidance of golf professional Kevin McGrath. The boys were shown how to swing properly, how to chip, putt and all the various drills to help them improve their interest in golf and their golf game. It was all done through the medium of games. Well done to all.

Our pupils are being encouraged to save their money through the Sammy Stamps savings scheme. Each week the stamps are on sale in the school and the boys are busy saving up for some future project. Thanks to Ms. Mulqueen for all her work with this initiative.

Mr. Kennedy’s class participated in a wonderful Titanic Project. The project covered many areas of the curriculum including history, reading, researching, writing, art and the project ended with the pupils making wonderful replicas of the ill fated ship. Well done to Mr. Kennedy, the boys and all the parents who helped out with the project.

Classes from the school visited an Electro Magnetic Show in the oxmantown Theatre. The exhibition was organised by Engineering Ireland and we hope that it will inspire our pupils to develop their interest in science and their scientific investigative skills.

On Wednesday the 16th of April our u/13 hurlers participated in a Cross Border Hurling Blitz involving schools from Westmeath, Longford and Offaly. The games were played in Mullingar on an astro-pitch surface. After seven games the Birr boys emerged victorious winning the final with ease. Well done to the boys and their mentors Mr. Kennedy and Mr. McIntyre.
