In Memoriam: Brother Patrick Nilus O’Regan FPM

Brother Patrick Nilus O’Regan of Presentation Brothers, Birr, Co. Offaly died peacefully in Eliza Lodge Nursing Home, Banagher, Co. Offaly at 07.10pm on Monday, 7th December 2015.

Brother Nilus was born to Patrick and Mary (O’Shea) O’Regan in Kilbrittain, Co. Cork on 11th April 1924. He entered the Presentation Brothers at Mount St Joseph, Cork in 1942. He made his First Profession of Vows in 1944 and his Final Profession in 1947.

He is survived by his sister, Lena (O’Donovan); his nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, relatives and friends; and his Presentation Brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John, Batt, Timmy and Jim; his sisters, Lil, Peg, Mary and Bríd.

Brother Nilus was educated at Gurraneasig National School, Kilbrittain, Co. Cork; Coláiste Muire, Douglas Road, Cork and De La Salle College, Waterford. He taught in St Brendan’s National School, Birr, Co. Offaly; Greenmount National School, Cork; St Joseph’s School, Mardyke, Cork; Milltown Boys National School, Milltown, Co. Kerry and Presentation College, Glasthule, Co. Dublin. He served as Principal at St Brendan’s National School, Birr; St Joseph’s School, Mardyke and Presentation College, Glasthule. He retired from teaching in 1989.

He served as Superior of the Community at Birr. He also served as Bursar there.

Funeral Arrangements: Lying in Repose at Boyd’s Funeral Home, Birr on Wednesday, 9th December, from 04.00pm until Removal at 06.00pm to St. Brendan’s Church, Birr. Requiem Mass on Thursday, 10th December, at 11.00am. Burial afterwards at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, Blarney Street, Cork.
