March 2012 Easter Activities

Easter is always a busy time in St. Brendan’s. We had our Stations of the Cross in preparation for Easter Sunday. Classes designed, coloured and made Easter Eggs and Easter Bunny masks. There were Easter Egg Hunts around the school. Attendance Certificates were presented for full attendance and most improved attendance. Pupils volunteered to participate in the Easter ceremonies in the Church. Prizes and hampers were given out for colouring competitions. The boys really enjoyed the the build up to their Easter Holidays.

March 2012 Golf Lessons

Professional golfer Mr. Kevin McGrath and Bobby King came to the school and gave our pupils basic golf lessons in a fun and interesting manner. He had equipment especially adapted for the pupils and showed them the basics skills involved in golf through games and fun. The boys really enjoyed the sessions.

March 2012 Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhí alán eachtraí ag tarlú sa scoil le haghaidh Seachtain na Gaeilge. Bhí duaiseanna le fáil do daltaí a bhí ag caint as Gaeilge. Rinne na muinteoirí sár iarracht an Gaeilge a fhorbairt. Bhí ceolchoirm ar siúl agus chan na daltaí amhráin gaelach. Dúirt siad paidreacha agus dánta as gaeilge freisin. Bhi Tra na gCeist sa halla again agus bhí na daltaí ag caint gaeilge sna ranganna agus amuigh sa chlós.

March 2012 Hurling and Football

This term has been very busy on the sporting front. Teams from the school have participated in an indoor hurling blitz in Shinrone and won a football blitz in Ferbane. There are currently indoor hurling leagues on in the school with 3rd /4th finished and 5th/6th leagues ongoing. There will be an Astro Turf hurling blitz coming up for 3rd/4th soon and then the outdoor championship will be starting. In preparation for this the school has played several challenge matches against Crinkle and Dromakeenan.

March 2012 Stations of the Cross

In preparation for Easter we have started our Stations of the Cross ceremonies. The classes say the prayers, hold the candles and cross and visit the stations that are displayed in our school gym. The pictures tell the story of Jesus on the road to Calvary right up to Easter Sunday.

March 2012 First Confession

After a lot of preparatory work the pupils of 2nd class made their First Confession in St. Brendan’s Church. The ceremony went very well on the night with the boys singing, saying their prayers and making their confession. Thanks to their teachers, S.N.A.s, priests of the parish, Majella and to all parents/guardians for making the ceremony such a success.

March 2012 Heineken Cup

David Farrell brought the Heineken Cup around to various classes in the school. He explained how the competition is run, who the current holders are and explained the geographical locations of all the teams who compete in the competition. The boys got to briefly hold this massive cup and David explained that it was only a replica and that the real trophy is held at rugby headquarters in Paris.

March 2012 Fruit Scheme

Again we would like to thank Mrs. Margaret Murphy and her team of wonderful helpers who continue to give of their time and efforts in running our fruit scheme. Each morning freshly cut fruit is delivered to each classroom and the boys look forward to having their daily healthy snack.

March 2012 Samba Drums Workshop

Fifth class participated in a wonderful Samba Drums Workshop developing their musical skills of percussion, timing, rhythm, solo performance, group performance and the history of drumming and variety and types of drums.

March 2012 Flower Arranging

To celebrate Mother’s Day Mrs. Margaret Murphy invited the parents/guardians of junior and senior infants into the school for a brief demonstaraion of flower arranging. Mrs. Lonergan gave the demonstration and then the pupils sat with their parents/guardians/grandparents/relations and made a beautiful flower arrangement to present to their mothers on Mothers Day. There was a great turn out for the occasion and light refreshments were provided by our Parents’ Association afterwards. It was a wonderful project for all involved.
