Clann Cluaine theatre group visited the school and performed a wonderful show called ” Deirdre of the Sorrows”. The show was full of action and drama with music and sound effects heightening the dramatic effect. The show  captivated both younger and older pupils. The show was set in Celtic times and gave the boys an insight into the clothes, weapons and customs of that era. The cast interacted with the audience and everyone enjoyed this well presented show.

With the arrival of Spring our school was once again a flurry of artistic activities. The classrooms were adorned with art work on themes of Spring, St. Brigid’s Day and numerous other artistic endeavours. The walls and display areas were awash with colourful paintings, drawings, patterns and projects all creating  a wonderful atmosphere in the school.

Our school was very well represented this year at the local Credit Union Table Quiz. Two teams participated in the event. Our senior team of Luke , Conor , Daire and Rory  finished in second place in their section. Our junior team comprising of Joseph , Conor , Eoin  and Curtis  were the outright winners in the junior section of the Quiz.They went on to qualify from the next round and are now representing our school in the All Ireland Finals. Best of luck lads. Well done to all involved.

Author and broadcaster John Quinn visited St. Brendan’s and shared his vast knowledge and experiences of writing with the pupils. He spoke about his own experiences , how he started writing, different styles of writing, subject material and had question and answer sessions with the pupils. We hope he will inspire some of our budding writers to fulfill their potential and go on to write books of their own.

Mr. Kennedy ran an Indoor Hurling League in the school at lunch time. There was a great turnout of players and the pupils enjoyed the games and practising their skills in the confines of the gym. There was great interest in the league and great rivalry shown between all the teams. All the boys enjoyed playing against their friends and classmates in an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.The winning team in the senior section was captained by Anthony Mooney narrowly defeating Ian Kelly’s team in a closely contested final.

We held our St. Brigid’s Day ceremony in the gym to mark the beginning of Spring. Miss. Doyle’s class read the prayers and all classes sang a song to celebrate this saints feast day. Mr. Donegan told many stories about St. Brigid and 4th class were delighted to display their lovely art work and St. Brigid’s crosses based on the saint’s life. Various displays were seen around the school based on St. Brigid and Spring.

Two teams from the school participated in the Tag-Rugby Blitz held in Birr rugby pitch. Both teams did very well with one team reaching the semi final and the other team winning the competition outright. It was a great mornings sporting activity with teams from Killeen, Kinnity, Carrig and Birr all competing for a share of the spoils. All the players got to see and hold the Heineken Cup which was present on the day. Well done to Mr. Crofton and sixth class on their tremendous performances in both reaching the semifinal and winning the competition.
