May 2016-PA sponsored cycle in lOUGH BOORA

June 13, 2016

PA Sponsored walk/ Cycle– This was a great activity for the boys and great fundraiser for the school. We last did this 2 years ago so now all boys in 5th/6th have had the opportunity of taking part in a biking activity with school. We took a crowd of 50 eager boys and they split into bikers and walkers and took off for 2 hours of exploring and activity in the park. The bikers each covered an impressive 12 km. Thanks to Keith Harte for transport of bikes, bike hire at Lough Boora for very reasonable rate and for Andrew Walsh support with provision of bus. Our classes JI-4th went to Birr Castle for their sponsored walk and each walked good distances with their teachers. Thanks to the staff for ensuring all went well and to Birr Castle for allowing us great access. Special thanks to PA for organising the events

May 2016-Edmund Rice awards

June 13, 2016

The Edmund Rice Awards took place this year in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. 5th Class students from the Presentation Monastery in Killarney, Co Kerry, and from St Brendan’s Primary School in Birr, Co Offaly, gathered to remember and celebrate Blessed Edmund Rice. The Birr students engaged in a lively and poignant retelling of Blessed Edmund’s life, and spoke about how his memory still inspires their school today. The Killarney students’ presentation gave a fascinating insight into the history of their 178 year-old school, and, once again, how Blessed Edmund Rice’s values still blossom in the community to this day. Br Andrew Hickey presented each student with a certificate, and congratulated them on the work they have done. The boys then got a lovely lunch and played games together including the popular “catch the pig” The Awards will return next year. Thanks to Ms Ward and the excellent boys who represented the best of what our school is about.
